Ruth E. Hofer, 90, of Huron

HURON — Ruth E. Hofer, 90, of Huron, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018, at her residence.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6, at Bethesda Church in Huron with interment in Prairie Bible Church Cemetery of rural Carpenter.  Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday followed by a time of sharing to begin at 7 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home.
 Ruth was born October 12, 1927, in Osceola to Edward and Elizabeth (Decker) Hohm. She attended the Meyers and Tyrell Country Schools and one year at Yale High School. Ruth was united in marriage to Eli M. Hofer May 16, 1945, in Yale. Eli and Ruth farmed in the Hitchcock area until moving to their house by the airport in Huron in 1976.
 Over the years, Ruth worked as a hired hand for area farmers and Armour’s. She also worked in the kitchen at the Chuck Wagon café and later Telelect where she received employee of the year and retired in 1994. Ruth enjoyed working in her garden with her sister-in-law, Joyce Hohm, canning, baking, sewing doll clothes, and arranging flowers and giving the arrangements to other people.  Ruth loved visiting with friends and family. She was a member of the Prairie Bible Church and attended Bethesda Church after moving to Huron and attended Prairie Bible Church as much as she could.
 Grateful for having shared in Ruth’s life are two daughters, Sandy (Larry) Mack, and Sharon Reno all of Huron; four sons, Robert (Priscilla) Hofer of Pierre, triplets, Lonny (Linda) Hofer of Rapid City, Don Hofer, and Arnie Hofer both of Huron; 17 grandchildren, Roger (Alison) Kleinsasser of Huron, and their children: Adison, Tyler, and Travis, Roxie (Tim) Kelly of Sioux Falls and their children: Evan, Caitlin, and Taylor, Stephanie (Randy) Haas of Vancouver, Wash. and their children: Peyton and Aaliyah, Nikki (Bruce) Knutson of Huron and their daughter, Olivia, Lori Mack of Rapid City, Philip Mack of Rapid City, Amy (Slade) Weller of Pierre and their daughter, Isabelle, Aaron (Melissa) Hofer of Sioux Falls and their children: Jakob and Jaden, Brian (Amy) Reno of Sioux Falls, Fr. Adam Hofer of Rapid City,  Lt. Michael Hofer USAF deployed to Kuwait, Elizabeth Hofer of Rapid City, Jonathon (Brittany) Hofer of Rome, Italy and their son, Elijah, Marianne Hofer of Bismarck, N.D., Rebekah (Max) Kemink of Japan and their son, Will, Joshua Hofer of Huron, and Jessica Hofer of Japan; one son-in-law, Larry Kleinsasser of Huron; two brothers, Eddie Hohm of Wessington, and Palmer (Barbara) Hohm of Huron; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Hohm of Huron, and Glenda Hofer of Redfield; three brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Elvina) Hofer of Huron, Dave (Gladys) Hofer of Huron, and Sam (Ruth) Hofer of Hitchcock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eli M. Hofer on April 15, 1979; one brother, Bert Hohm; one sister, Adena Imker; one sister-in-law, Jean Hohm; one daughter, Diane Kleinsasser on July 23, 2008; one son-in-law, Bob Reno on March 13, 2008; and one daughter-in-law, Debbie Hofer on February 8, 2016.
 Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to the Bethesda Church, Prairie Bible Christian Helping Hands, or Hospice of Huron.
