OLIVET — Ruth R. Baltzer, 88 of Olivet entered her eternal home on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Scotland Good Samaritan Center, Scotland.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Olivet United Methodist Church in Olivet, with Rev. Chuck Asche and Rev. Arlyn Coalter officiating. Burial will be in the Hoffnungstahl Cemetery, rural Kaylor at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Visitations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at the Olivet United Methodist Church and then one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruth Baltzer (nee Herr) was born on May 8, 1931 near Tripp, to Otto and Edna (Stoebner) Herr. She was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Church at Tripp. She attended Lakeside School through 8th grade. Ruth was united in marriage to Ruben Baltzer on January 12, 1951 at the Frieden’s Reformed Church in Tripp. They lived and farmed northwest of Olivet until Ruben’s passing in 1980. Ruth was Ruben’s caregiver for eight years doing home dialysis. She moved to Olivet in 1981 and resided there until 2015 when she became a resident at the Scotland Good Samaritan Center. Ruth was an active member of the Olivet United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, a member of United Methodist Women, serving on various committees and cleaning the church for many years.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, quilting and preparing her family’s favorite German dishes. She worked at the Scotland Cafe for a short time. She worked at the Scotland Good Samaritan Center for over 10 years. Upon her retirement from the Good Samaritan Center in 1994, she worked part time as a Home Health Aide in the area for a number of years.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Rochelle Baltzer of Sioux Falls, and Patricia (Russ) Bentley of Huron; two grandsons, Steven (Orlando Bain) Bentley of Sioux Falls, and Travis (Melissa) Bentley of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Maydean (Arlo) Dewald of Parkston, and Lucille (Duane) Haase of Paullina, Iowa; two brothers, Willmer (Wilma) Herr of Tripp, and Harvey (Maxine) Herr of Sioux Falls, and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Baltzer of Scotland.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben, and her parents.
Pallbearers are Steven Bentley, Travis Bentley, Richard Hanson, John Herr, Kirby Baltzer, and Mark Rames.
