HURON — The Huron School Board held its meeting Tuesday evening, at the Huron High School Auditorium.
Business manager Kelly Christopherson delivered the CTE construction update, stating that the contractors have been working on the in floor radiant heat preparing for the pouring of the concrete floor. He said that there are hopes they are close to resolving the two-hour fire wall requirement that needs to be met between the existing building and the new steel building.
The roofing contractor is back on site, focusing on the high school, with the completion date of April 2022.
At the middle school the chiller arrived and was set in place Friday, September 17, and it just needs to be all hooked up with the completion to be later this month and the building controls are still being worked on.
Dr. Kraig Steinhoff noted during the Superintendents report, that CTE director Jolene Koneche has been approved by Mitchell, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Watertown and Yankton superintendents to collaborate with their CTE directors to set up tours of the their respective CTE programs, with the desire to explore and collaborate with neighboring schools seeking administration of the centers, scheduling student educations, business partnership, branding and logoing, registration of students and staffing.
It will include select staff of the school district and school board members to attend the tours once they are scheduled.
The first reading of the 504 special education handbook had no major changes, with the main changes being the date on the front cover and the director of special education.
Approved on the agenda was the hiring of 13 new employees and one resignation.
-The Preschool Partnership Program for a $1,000 grant fund for enrolling preschool aged children in local preschools.
-HEA to be recognized for certification negotiations
-James Stueckrath to have the band indoor exhibition as a fundraiser with passes not being accepted for the event.
The next school board meeting will be held on Monday, October 25, in the IPC room located on the second floor of the Huron Arena. The public is encouraged to attend.
