PIERRE — In the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) weekly release of school numbers, the college and K-12 numbers continue to be low, though both were higher than the number of the previous week, as classes are back in session across the state for many colleges and most K-12 schools.
The K-12 schools in the state reported 178 new positive cases in the week of Jan. 3-9. The report noted 238 active cases among K-12 school students and staff.
Despite a number of colleges not yet back in session, the return to classes for some schools in the state led to a rise in numbers, reporting 58 new positive cases Jan. 3-9.
The active cases across the state’s 15 colleges, universities, and technical schools fell to 63, with four schools reporting no active cases, six reporting three or more active cases, and five reporting 1-2 active cases among students and staff.
