HURON — The South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) lauded the improved treatment of doctors throughout the state of those COVID-19 patients that required hospitalization over the past few months, citing the improved death rate in the state.
What has been notable in the last month is a spike in those who are currently hospitalized in the state, as virus variants have begun to infiltrate the state, going from 55-65 across the entire state in early- to mid-March to 90-100 over the past two weeks.
Numbers were not released Sunday by DOH, but Saturday’s numbers showed 102 currently hospitalized across the state after 238 new positive cases and 290 new recovered cases. The active virus cases in the state declined to 2,413.
Beadle County added two new positive cases and two recovered cases on Saturday, maintaining the active cases in the county at 39.
The Heartland Region noted multiple counties with recovered cases added on Saturday, bringing down the active cases across the seven-county region. The DOH numbers showed 128 active cases in the Heartland through Saturday.
