Second-half surge lifts Huron soccer past Mitchell

MITCHELL — With a pair of goals in the second half from Biat Say, the Huron boys’ soccer team recorded a 3-1 victory against Mitchell in a Kernel Bowl matchup.

“We started off the game slow once again,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “We picked it up in the second half and played with more intensity.

“Our defense continues to play well,” she said. “We just have trouble connecting on the offensive end.”

Mitchell scored the opening goal of the game in the 19th minute, but Huron answered with a goal by Sha Sher on a pass from Say in the 33rd to even the score at 1-1.

Say broke the deadlock with the first goal of the second half, scoring on a pass from Sher in the 42nd minute.

Say then capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute. He was named as the Player of the Game.

Alex Bautista had five saves in the goal for the Tigers, who are now 3-3-1.

“We will look to use this win as momentum for our next game on Tuesday against Yankton,” Branaugh said.

Huron will host Yankton at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
