Posted

HURON —Huron High School All-State cross country runner Sami Shoultz recently signed a national letter of intent to join the cross country and track and field program at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. The signing was announced by Jamen Helton, DWU head cross country and assistant track and field coach.
Shoultz is the daughter of Christy and James Shoultz.

“Sami is a five-time state qualifier for Huron on the cross-country course and will have an immediate impact on our women’s team not only on the cross-country course but on the track as well,” Helton commented. “She is going to fit in perfectly with our current roster and really be able to help take our women’s team to another level.”
Shoultz was a member of the Huron High School cross-country team where she competed in the 5,000-meter run and also covered the 800-meter run and various relays for the Tiger track and field team.
In the 5,000-meter run, Shoultz finished with a time of 20:14 at the RC Hart Ranch Invite which set a personal best. She also recorded a career high in the 800-meter run in 2:22.
“Sami’s been my top female runner since she was an eighth grader,” said HHS cross country coach Angie Thomas. “The younger girls look up to Sami and aspire to someday run as fast as she does. Coach Helton gained a great runner, a fun teammate, and a hard worker. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Sami. I wish her the best of luck at DWU!”
