Sioux Falls ends title run for All-Stars at state tourney

FORT PIERRE — With its second 7-0 victory in as many days, top-seeded Sioux Falls clinched its spot in the title game with a win against the Huron All-Stars on Saturday in the 2018 South Dakota Varsity Boys’ State Hockey Tournament at the Expo Center.
Anthony Seykora pitched a shutout in the net, stopping all 17 shots he faced from Huron, to help the Flyers improve to 18-1-1.
Saturday’s win was the third of the season for Sioux Falls against the All-Stars. In the first meeting the Flyers won 7-2, but the second meeting was just a 3-1 victory.
Huron goalie Jacob Wehde faced 35 shots in the game and recorded 28 saves.
Nathan Fanning opened the scoring for Sioux Falls less than a minute into the first period. He was assisted by Nate Mohr and Collin Geres on the play.

The Flyers capitalized on their quick start with two more goals to take a 3-0 in the first two and a half minutes of play.
Geres had the second goal with Fanning and Mohr assisting. The final goal was by Fanning on a power play, with Braden Malwitz recording the assist.
The score remained 3-0 well into the second period. Ethan Ramsey broke the scoring drought with a goal for the Flyers nearly 11 minutes into the second period. Cole Teigen and Jonah Weems were credited with assists.
Less than a minute later Sioux Falls stretched its lead to 5-0 with a goal by Nathan Moon. Ryan Dinsmore and Keegan Anderson assisted on the play.
The Flyers then added a pair of goals in the third period. Fanning earned a hat trick with his third goal of the game on a pass from Mohr. Grant Koerner capped the scoring with a goal on a pass from Ezra Revoir.
Sioux Falls will play second-seeded Rushmore, who won 3-2 in overtime in the other semi-final game, for the state championship at 3:05 p.m. today.
Huron will face Brookings  for third place at 12:35 p.m.
Watertown and Oahe will play for the consolation title at 10:05 a.m. today. Watertown edged Mitchell 6-5 on Saturday, while Oahe defeated Sioux Center 7-2.
