Snow Queen Festival this weekend in Aberdeen

Macie Luce, 2022 S.D. Senior Snow Queen

ABERDEEN — South Dakota State Senior Snow Queen Macie Luce will reign over the 77th Annual Snow Queen Festival this weekend in Aberdeen. The festival activities begin on Thursday, Jan. 12, and culminate with the crowning of the 2023 Snow Queen on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Aberdeen Civic Theatre beginning at 7 p.m.

Macie is a 2022 graduate of Wolsey-Wessington High School and the daughter of Jeff and Tammy Luce of Wolsey. She is currently a freshman at Northern State University majoring in special education. She also holds the distinction of being one of only four individuals in the history of the festival to be crowned both State Junior and Senior Snow Queen.

During her reign Luce traveled with South Dakota Junior Snow Queen Amelia Currington of Faulkton and their Ambassadors to numerous events and festivities throughout South Dakota and Minnesota representing the S.D. Snow Queen Festival. In addition to many other gifts, Luce received a $3,500 College Scholarship.

Regarding the past year, Queen Luce states, “My experience as the South Dakota Snow Queen has been nothing short of amazing. I have been blessed with a year full of memories, connections and growth. I can safely say that this festival has shaped me into the person I am today. I am so glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and competed for this title. When I think about Snow Queen, I think about how this program empowers young women. It helped me develop social skills, state presence, connection with people from all over the nation and most importantly, confidence. I am so thankful for the opportunities I was given this year. I hope that people see how this program truly changes lives.”
