HURON — St. Thomas More recorded a sweep against Huron in a tennis match Thursday at Huron Courts.
The closest the Tigers came to a victory was in the No. 3 doubles match, when Brenden Schlader and Reese Uecker took both their sets against the Cavaliers to tiebreakers.
Jake Berzing and Cullen Hill won the No. 3 doubles match for St. Thomas More with back-to-back 7-6 victories. They claimed the first set with a 7-2 decision in the tiebreaker and the second with an 8-6 margin in the tiebreaker.
“Brenden and Reese played a tough match at No. 3 doubles,” Huron coach Tim Hedblom said. “The two of them also played well in their singles matches.”
Berzing handed Schlader 6-3 and 6-4 setbacks in No. 5 singles, while Hill won against Uecker in No. 6 singles with set scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
Max Vetch inked a win for the Cavaliers at No. 4 singls by getting past Landon Claeys 6-4 and 6-3.
After pulling out a 6-4 win in the opening set, Chase Thurness won the No. 1 singles match against Huron’s Blake Meyer, who struggled through an ankle injury, with a 6-2 win in the second set.
St. Thomas More emerged with victories in all three of the doubles matches.
The Tigers will travel to participate in the Brookings Quadrangular at 10 a.m. on Saturday, before closing the regular season at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet on May 12 in Brandon.
