RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. — Stan passed away on December 10, 2022, at Park Terrace peacefully and unexpectedly at the age of 85 years.
He was born in Huron to Frederic and Mildred (Friese) Newton. He grew up in Huron graduating from Huron High School in 1955. During the summers he worked for Potter’s Shoes in Huron. He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., graduating with a BA degree in 1959. In June of 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Gleich. To this union God blessed them with two beautiful children…. A son, Jeffrey and a daughter, Susan.
Upon graduating from St. Olaf College he accepted a job with the JCPenney Co. He worked for the JCPenney Co for 38 years. His career took the family to San Bernardino, Calif., Hawaii, and finally back to Orange County, Calif. He retired as a Regional Personnel Administrator. One of the main highlights of his success was meeting Mr. J.C. Penney.
In the year 2000 Stan’s wife, Carol, passed away after a long battle with cancer. They had been married for 42 years. They were blessed with a happy life together.
In the year 2001, Stan had the pleasure of meeting Cheryl Last. They were married with God’s blessing in 2007. In his retirement Stan and Cheryl enjoyed traveling the world, being with friends, being active in their church and cooking fantastic meals together. They were blessed with a long full life with each other.
Stan is now peacefully at rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior. We are all thankful for his life on earth.
Stan is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his two children, Jeffrey (Laticia) Newton of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Susan (Phil) Richter of Sequim, Wash.; Four grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Richter, Garrett Richter and Jaclyn (Hunter) Giboney and Carina (Spencer) Newton-Hardy; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-children, Andrew (Laura) Last, Tim (Megan) Last and Dana (Alex) Gordon; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law, Al (Jan) Gleich; his sister, Barbara Newton Laue of Waterloo, Iowa; and niece, Kristen Ockerman of Davenport, Iowa; also very special cousins, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Stan touched the lives of many people with his sense of humor and generosity. Growing up in South Dakota, one of his most favorite things to do was to go hunting and fishing with his dad, uncles and cousins. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and a very loyal friend. Stan will be missed by all who knew him. He had a very strong faith in God and He blessed Stan with a very good earthly life.
There will be a memorial service at Community Lutheran Church, 30322 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., on Saturday Feb. 18, 2023, at 11 a.m.
