PIERRE — The South Dakota Department of Health revealed the numbers Monday to open the month of June, and a few “round numbers” were achieved for the state as the 5,000th positive test and 40,000th negative test were both recorded in Monday’s numbers. The state recorded 41 positive to finish with 5,034 total positive and 1,492 new negative tests to finish with 40,627 total negative tests that have been recorded in the state.
Beadle County recorded 14 new positive tests and 14 new negative tests. That brings the county’s total to 275 total positive and 450 total negative tests run in the county and 3.95% of the county’s residents tested. With 76 recovered and five deaths, the county has 194 active cases.
In questioning Monday, DOH secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon stated that Link Snacks, Inc. (LSI) in Alpena conducted mass testing of employees over the weekend. DOH was involved and provided supplies for the mass testing. Malsam-Rysdon stated that another mass testing would take place on Wednesday this week for employees.
Secretary Malsam-Rysdon also responded to a question regarding the mass testing statewide regarding the senior care facility testing. With 98% of tier-1 facilities completed and the majority of tier-2 completed as well, more than 10,000 tests have come back from facilities across the state, with a ratio of roughly 60% staff and 40% residents of the facilities. Testing will continue through tier-2 and tier-3 facilities, which are the assisted living facilities in communities without significant community spread of the virus.
