State notes second highest single-day COVID-19 active cases of 2021

HURON — Because of the Labor Day holiday, Tuesday’s COVID-19 numbers released by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) included only the numbers through Friday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. Numbers from that time through Tuesday at 1 p.m. will be released in Wednesday and reported in Friday’s paper.

Tuesday’s DOH report indicated the state added 453 new positive cases, two new deaths, and 239 new recovered cases. Active cases in the state cleared the 6,000 level to 6,182, the second-highest single-day number the state has seen in 2021. The highest was 6,387 on Jan. 6.

Beadle County added four new positive cases and four new recovered cases in Tuesday’s report, leaving the active cases in the county at 49.

Among the seven counties in the Heartland Region, 12 new positive cases and five new recovered cases were reported by DOH Tuesday. That brings the region’s active cases up to 118.
