Sarasota, Fla. — Steven Siegling, 45, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from an aneurysm.
His memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at the Presbyterian Church in Wessington. Burial will be held at a later date.
Steven David Siegling was born May 13, 1973, Mother’s Day of that year, to David and Kathy (Rediger) Siegling. He grew up in Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School. During high school, he was active in music where he played the drums, and all things using his speaking skills. He served as an announcer for school, church and community events and won many awards for oral interp and plays. His portrayal of “Zorro” in a comedic play brought eruptions of laughter and is still on tape to enjoy.
As a high school job, he worked for local bee keeper “Casavan Apiaries” and spoke about the “big boy” experience of going to Texas with bees. He also helped on the family farm, but that was not his calling. He went into sales for Radio Shack, ultimately managing the largest stores in Minneapolis and Las Vegas. After a Rediger family vacation to Disney World, he fell in love with Florida and soon relocated there. Wessington was his hometown and he came back for a short while, but business took him back to Florida. He owned a sales and marketing firm representing national and international businesses. He traveled across the country and dealt with people throughout the world gaining friends and close associates everywhere.
In 2004, he married Holly Rider and they had one daughter, Sophie Noelle, born December 8, 2011.
Besides anything and everything to do with his young daughter and spending time with family, his passions were golfing and off shore fishing. When time allowed, he sold boats and helped charter Gulf of Mexico fishing trips for good friends at Admiralty Marine in Venice, Florida. He was organizing such a trip for his parents, who were flying in on Saturday to spend time… but time ended on Wednesday instead.
As the oldest grandchild on both sides of his family, and with no cousins close in age, he loved being with the adults; especially his grandparents and Great-Aunt and Great-Uncle, Myra “Suse” and Maurice Christian. His favorite bible, given to him by his Aunt Luann, was often opened to “Timothy.”
Steven is survived by his daughter; his parents; one brother, Daniel Siegling (significant other, Jennie Kranz) of Brookings; his grandmothers, Lou Rediger of Miller, and Dolores Siegling of Sioux Falls; aunts and uncles, Greg (Carolyn) Rediger of Miller, Luann (Tom) Reynolds of Sioux Falls, Byron (Cheryl) Rediger of Marvin N.C., Darla (Sam) Lukens of Tea, Dennis Siegling of Tea, and Dawn Siegling, Lakeville, Minn.; and cousins, Grant Rediger, Nathan (Mckenzie) Reynolds, Kari (Sam) Purtle, Rainey (Brittany) Reynolds, Bryanna Rediger, Braydon Rediger, Brooke Rediger, Becky (Andrew) Hartman and Alex Schaefbauer.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dale Rediger, and Darrell Siegling.
Kuhler Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
