Sturgis slips past Huron in playoffs

STURGIS — The Huron Tigers boys’ soccer team fell to the Sturgis Scoopers in the opening round of the soccer playoffs on Tuesday in Sturgis, 1-0.
“It’s always disappointing to lose a play off game,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “Sturgis is an improved team and a penalty kick was the deciding goal this evening.”
Sturgis scored its one goal on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Eh Ja Beh Win had 10 saves in goal.
Branaugh praised the team’s efforts in the game.
“We played a tough, physical game today,” Branaugh explained. “I felt our boys played well; we had chances, just couldn‚Äôt convert to score a goal in the end.”
The Tigers’ coach especially noted her six seniors for their work this season.
“Thank you to our six seniors for their effort in helping build our program,” she raved. “A special thank you to seniors Ah Lar Sar and Aung Aung Htoo who have been starters for five and three years each; I appreciate what they bring each day to Huron Tiger Boys Soccer!”
