HURON — Dedicated to helping women put the focus back on their own health, Huron Regional Medical Center will present a wide variety of health topics and screenings at the SD Women’s Expo, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.in the Nordby 4-H Exhibit Hall on the S.D. State Fairgrounds.
This year, women are invited to take 10 minutes to destress and learn how to put their own health at the top of their to-do list.
HRMC and other healthcare providers will present interactive information on topics like local help for common women’s health issues, car seat safety, hands-only CPR, awareness of human trafficking, smart antibiotic use and being safe with smart phones. Free blood pressure, skin damage and osteoporosis screenings will also be offered.
Presentations will include:
• 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — When Toughing It Out Isn’t the Best Answer, Women’s Wellness Center Stage.

Dr. Sara Castellanos and Dr. Elyse Brock, obstetric and gynecologic physicians with the Women’s Wellness Center, will discuss female issues women sometimes “tough out” by not seeking help and the many options women have today, right here in Huron.
• 1 to 1:15 p.m. — Feet Friendly Insoles, Kwik Tip Korner
Joe Carr, DC, a chiropractor at Carr Chiropractic Clinic, will present information on the importance of proper shoes and orthotics in maintaining good posture and overall health while avoiding unnecessary foot pain.
• Celebrating October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HRMC’s medical imaging staff will be on-hand sharing information about the HRMC Foundation’s We’ve Got You Covered, a program to increase the number of women receiving regular mammograms through awareness activities and free mammograms.
Women between the ages of 40-64 who have not had a mammogram in two years or women under age 40 with a higher risk of breast cancer and do not have insurance that covers a mammogram are eligible to receive a free mammogram thanks to the generous donations of area residents to the HRMC Foundation.
Whether a woman doesn’t have insurance, their insurance requires an out-of-pocket expense or you’re not sure if it covers mammograms — we’ve got you covered. In addition to sharing information and scheduling mammograms at the event, the medical imaging staff will be hosting a “Pink Photo Booth.” All women are invited to stop by and don some fun pink accessories and pose for a selfie with all your besties.
While learning about their health, women will be invited to take a rest, enjoy a hand massage, calming essential oils and a complimentary glass of fruit infused water.
