HURON — Terry Gerrits, 66, of Huron, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, at Kuhler Funeral Home with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a time of sharing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kuhler Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.
Terry James Gerrits was born September 24, 1950, at Madison to James and Maxcene (Crow) Gerrits. He grew up in Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1968.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three tours in Viet Nam. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage to Janet Anderson at Canova. They made their home in Huron, where he was employed at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for nearly 40 years.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Huron; his son, Trevor (Stephanie) Gerrits of Huron; three grandsons, Logan, Evan and Dilan Gerrits; two brothers, Rich Gerrits of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Bob (Patty) Gerrits of Apple Valley, Minn.; one sister, Sue Elias of St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Steve.
