Sunshine Bible Academy 48, Wessington Springs 46
MILLER — The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders claimed the first win of the season for the team, with a close 48-46 victory over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans during a girls’ basketball match held on Thursday night at Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller.
Lindsey Wilken tallied an impressive game-high of 31 points to lead the Crusaders, Shariah Brockel totaled seven points and led the rebounders with 12, while Abby Haun added five more points. Sunshine Bible Academy improved its season record to 1-4 with the win.
Wessington Springs was led by Makayla Dornbusch with 17 points, followed by Chloe Munsen with 11 points, while Kristie Munsen totaled seven points for the Lady Spartans, now 1-5 on the season.
Sunshine Bible Academy will host the Iroquois Lady Chiefs today, while Wessington Springs is set to travel to Highmore for more Class “B” girls’ basketball action.
FAULKTON — The Faulkton Area Trojans took a 53-23 win over the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds in Class “B” girls’ basketball action on Thursday night in Faulkton.
Faulkton Area improved its season record to 3-1 with the 30-point victory, while Wolsey-Wessington fell to a record of 1-2 on the season after the loss.
Brooke Niederbaumer led the Trojans with 12 points, while another 10 points and six rebounds were added by Taylor Cramer.
The Lady Warbirds were led by Chantel Haider with seven points, Lizzi Brandt totaled four points and six rebounds, while Cortney Sprecher claimed four more points for the team.
Wolsey-Wessington will host Langford Area on Friday, Dec. 28, while Faulkton Area travels to Huron to take on the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks.
Wolsey-Wessington 56, Faulkton Area 42
FAULKTON — The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds broke open a game that was close after the first quarter, with a 21-14 run in the second period, en route to a 56-42 win over the Faulkton Area Trojans in non-conference boys’ basketball Thursday night.
Lyndon Williams scored 18 points and Brevan Hooks added 10 for the Warbirds, who improve to 3-1 with the win. Mark Hamilton handed out four assists in the game.
Tyler Ogle scored a game-high 23 points to pace the Trojans, now 2-2, while Nick Schlechter had eight rebounds.
Faulkton Area had 11 turnovers and Wolsey-Wessington turned the ball over eight times. No other team stats were available from the contest.
Wolsey-Wessington will host Waverly-South Shore on Dec. 28, as part of the Big Bo Classic in Wolsey, while Faulkton Area will take on Ethan at the Huron Holiday Classic, Dec. 29, at Huron Arena.
