ABERDEEN — The Huron Tigers competed Thursday, at the Sahli/Salmi Invitational Cross Country meet in Aberdeen.
Host Aberdeen Central won both the girls’ and boys’ championships on their home Lee Park Golf Course.
The Central girls scored 39 points, led by the 1-2 finishes of Melanie Jacobs and Paige Schmidt. Harrisburg’s Presli White was third. Harrisburg was second in the team race and Brookings finished third.
Huron’s Victoriah Buffington led the Tigers with a 10th place finish, while Brooklyn Boetel finished 30th.
“Tori ran one of her best races to finish 10th,” said Angie Thomas, Huron cross country coach.
Aberdeen took first and second in the boys race as well, as Daniel Street and Josh Martin led the Golden Eagles to the team title with 40 points. Harrisburg was second and Pierre finished 3rd.
Sam Conrad from Brookings finished third.
Huron’s Cheech Harman ended with an 11th-place finish, running a personal best in the race.
Will Radke was 27th, TJ Lien finished 32nd and Angel Olivo Porcayo and Cameron Cutshaw finished 46th and 47th.
“It was a beautiful day to run in Aberdeen,” Thomas said. “Cheech ran a great race.”
Huron’s JV effort was led by Hannah Schoenfelder’s fourth-place finish, with a nice ending kick according to Thomas.
Other JV finishers for Huron included Will Knippling in 18th in the JV boys’ race, while Tatum Peterson was 11th
in the girls JV race. Lily Meyer earned an 11th place finish in the middle school standings.
Huron is back in action on Sept. 19, when it hosts the Clyde Cotton Huron Invitational at Broadland Creek Golf Course
