Tigers go 2-2 during invitational

HURON — Most of the top teams in Class AA volleyball gathered for an early season invitational on Saturday at Huron Arena and the Huron Middle School.
A total of 10 teams played four matches each. At the end of the day Sioux Falls Lincoln and Mitchell both emerged with perfect 4-0 records on the day.
Lincoln defeated Spearfish, Sturgis, Huron and Pierre on the day, while Mitchell took down S.F. Roosevelt, S.F. O’Gorman, Rapid City Stevens and S.F. Washington, all in two-set matches in the best-of-three format.
Stevens and O’Gorman each finished 3-1 on the day, while Washington and Huron each closed the day with 2-2 marks.

Huron defeated Sturgis 25-10 and 25-16 to open the day’s play, then dropped a tough three-setter to Lincoln, 11-25, 25-20 and 25-23.
The Tigers downed Roosevelt in another tough three-set match, taking down the Rough Riders 25-13, 23-25 and 25-20, before bowing to R.C. Stevens in straight sets, 25-22 and 25-15.
Pierre and Roosevelt each finished the day 1-3, while Sturgis and Spearfish ended the day winless at 0-4.
