Tigers go 4-0 in invitational

HURON — The Huron Tigers went undefeated in their season-opening invitational tournament on Saturday at three locations in Huron.

The Tigers played at the Huron Arena South court, defeating Douglas in the opening game of the invite 25-9 and 25-17 behind four service aces by Maddie Jurgens and 18 digs from Hylton Heinz.

The Tigers then faced Northwestern, the third-ranked team in Class “B”, coming away with a 25-17 and 25-18 victory. Da’jai Claggett led the Tigers with seven kills, 10 digs, and a pair of service aces.

Huron took three sets to defeat Brookings 23-25, 25-13, and 26-24. Hamtyn Heinz set up the Huron offense with 22 assists and also had five kills. Claggett led the Tiger attack with ten kills.

Finally, the Tigers closed out the tourney with a 25-14 and 25-19 win over Sturgis.

Other teams that participated in the invitational on Saturday included Class “AA” No.1 Harrisburg (4-0), Douglas (0-4), Northwestern (2-2), Brookings (1-3), Class “AA” No. 5 Sioux Falls Lincoln (3-1), Sturgis (0-4), Spearfish (0-4), Mitchell (1-3), Watertown (3-1), Brandon Valley (2-2), and Class “B” second-ranked Chester (4-0).

The Tigers travel to Mitchell Tuesday.
