Tigers open outdoor season at Judson Invite

HURON — The Huron Tiger boys’ and girls’ track teams had exceptional days Tuesday at the Bob Judson Invitational track and field meet in Pierre.
After seeing several competitions ‘weathered-out’ already this spring, it was a bright, sunny day in Pierre and Huron’s results showed it.
For the boys’ Mason Small was a double event winner, taking the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 2.75-inches and also winning the triple jump with a distance of 40-3.
The Tiger boys also swept the top three spots in the pole vault, as Travis Kleinsasser soared 14-0, Matt Katz scaled 13-feet and Frank Hines topped 12-6 to make it 1-2-3 for Huron.
Alex Hill was second in the long jump (18-10) and took third in the triple jump (36-6). Hill was also a member of the winning boys’ 4 x 100 relay team, joining Hayden Hegg, Landon Hegg and Travis Kleinsasser in passing the baton in 45.92.
The sprint medley team of Landon Hegg, Xavier Erickson, Ryan Janes and Derick Siemonsma broke the tape in a time of 4:01.12.
Girls winners include the sprint medley relay team of Lexie Gilbert, Gracie Schoenfelder, Tenley Buddenhagen and Sami Shoultz, who won in a time of 4:40.37. Schoenfelder teamed with Ellie Hoops, Mikenna Moore and Libby Rounds to win the 4 x 200 relay
Other placers for the Tiger girls included the 4 x 100 relay team of Kayla Schimke, Reagan Rozell, Carli Lentsch and Jaclyn Lichty in a time of 59.70.
Reagan Rozell cleared 9-0 to take second in the pole vault and fellow vaulter Caley Coss took fourth with a height of 6-6.
Lexie Gilbert finished the 100 in a time of 13.88, which won her heat and placed her third overall.
Braylee Thomas won her heat in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:41.60, which was good for fourth place in the meet.
Gilbert, Thomas, Buddenhagen and Schoenfelder finished third in the 4 x 400 relay; Ellie Eichstadt took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 26-11 and Abbie DeJong cleared 4-8 to tie for fourth in the high jump.
Other boys’ placers include Erickson, who won his heat in the 200 in a time of 24.81, a time that earned him second place overall.
Hayden Hegg, Tyson Lien, Kler Hae and Josiah Savory finished third in the 4 x 200 in a time of 1:44.90; while Erickson teamed with Isaac Carr, Teegan Evers and Small to take third place in the same race, finishing in a time of 1:48.21.
Derick Siemonsma, Ryan Janes, Kler Hae and Jaren Schley took third in the 4 x 400 in a time of 3:54.67, while Teegan Evers cleared 5-8 to take third in the high jump and Carr finished fourth with a height of 5-6.
