Tigers record win against W/WS/SC

HURON — Huron scored three runs in each of the first and third innings and held on for an 8-5 victory against Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central on Wednesday in a spring high school baseball game at Klock Field.

Steven DeGeest, Johnny Hernandez and Dawson Rogers all had two hits for the Tigers, who recorded 10 hits in the game. Hayden Kane also had a double.

Mason Davis, Elliot Devries and Rogers each had an RBI for Huron.

Hernandez started on the mound and pitched four innings to earn the win for the Tigers. He allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Max Kranzler worked the final three innings in relief to record the save.

Dylan Schimke had three hits to lead Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central, while Carson Hainy had a pair of hits.

The Blackhawks narrowed their deficit to just a run with their first two runs in the third inning. They had a run in the fifth inning and then added two runs in the final at-bat to make it 8-5.

Mason Schelske pitched the first three innings for W/WS/SC. He allowed six runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

Next up for Huron is a 5 p.m. doubleheader against O’Gorman on April 6 at Klock Field.

The Blackhawks will host Elkton in an 11 a.m., game Friday in Wessington Springs.
