Tigers sitting ninth in AA state tourney

SIOUX FALLS — With all four of its golfers in the top half the field after the first day of competition, Huron is ninth as a team at the Class AA State Girls’ Golf Tournament, which is being held at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.

O’Gorman shot a 309 through the first 18 holes of play Monday to take a 21-stroke advantage over second-placed Mitchell, which sits at 330. Aberdeen Central is third in the 16-team field with a 333.

Sioux Falls Lincoln is fifth at 341, followed by Harrisburg at 344.

Huron finished the first day with a 358 total, which is just three strokes out of seventh place and 14 strokes out of the top five.

Reese Jansa of Harrisburg is the individual leader heading into the second round after shooting a 5-under-par 66 on Monday.

Shannon McCormick of O’Gorman is second at 72, followed by teammate Lauren Sutcliffe at 73.

Claire Yunag of Sioux Falls Lincoln is fourth at 74, while Emily Kolb of O’Gorman rounds out the top five with a 75.

Bryn Huber leads Huron after the first 18 holes of play with an 87, which puts her 25th in the 98-golfer field. Karlie Bigelow and Kenya Bigelow share the No. 31 position with scores of 89, while Libby Picek carded a 93 to claim a share of the 39th spot.

The final 18 holes of play will be held today, starting at 8 a.m.
