HURON — The students of Mike Carda’s Consumer Economics class recently completed the Junior Achievement Program, under the direction and mentorship of Bush Fullerton of Huron.
“Mr. Fullerton worked with the students on how companies decide things like pricing, how to price the product and investing in the company,” Carda said.
“In addition, the students learned the importance of doing research and development, as well as the power of giving back to the community, through charitiable contributions.”
In the Junior Achievement Program, students apply thier knowledge of the business basics, as they compete in an online forum to creat and market a successful company, in an interactive business simulation.

While partipating, the students use their knowledge to make decisions on price, production, marketing, investing and research and development.
The JA Titan program enhances business, economics and math skills, while developing the impact that the student’s decisions have on the success or failure of each company, according to Carda.
He added that the program ran for seven days and at the conclusion of the time fram, the students participated in a class contest, involving a total of eight teams from the class.
Program mentor Fullerton provided Huron Bucks to the members of the top three teams.
Leading the way was a team that included Shelly Matson, Lillie Plumb and Le Yang.
Second place went to a team made up of Thay Htoo, Teegan Evers, Sadie Markus and Tyson Lien, while Thaw Thee Lay, Max Kretschmar, Elizabeth Severance and Shee Wah finished third.
Carda said that the top two teams will compete at the state contest next month.
