WOLSEY — The higher seeds won and will advance in the opening round of the boys’ 281 Conference Tournament, held Saturday in Wolsey. The boys’ consolation and championship semifinals will take place Tuesday at Huron Arena, beginning at 3:30 p.m..
Consolation play will see Hitchcock-Tulare taking on Wessington Springs, followed by Sunshine Bible Academy squaring off with Iroquois. Championship semifinals, set to begin at 6:30 p.m. will find Highmore-Harrold taking on James Valley Christian, followed by Wolsey-Wessington taking on Sanborn Central-Woonsocket.
Final round play will take place Thursday at Huron Arena, with the 7th place game set for a 10:30 a.m. tip.

Highmore-Harrold 57, Hitchcock-Tulare 22
The top-seeded Highmore-Harrold Pirates built a 10-point lead after the first quarter into a 23-point halftime bulge, then held the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots scoreless in the third quarter to slam the door, en route to a 57-22 win in the first game of the 281 Conference boys’ basketball tournament on Saturday.
Jharret Bloomenrader scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds - both game-high totals - to help the Pirates improve to 6-3 and punch their ticket to the championship semifinals. Treymaine Eagle Thunder Alger added 16 points and seven boards for Highmore-Harrold.
Hitchcock-Tulare, which slips to 0-9 with the loss, was led by Grant Hamilton and Gabe Clark, both of whom had five points, while Ty Hofer claimed eight rebounds for the Patriots.
The James Valley Christian Vikings put four players into double figures Saturday, as they ran away from the Wessington Springs Spartans 62-37 in the opening round of the 281 Conference Tournament.
Josh Wieting led the Vikings with 22 points, while Braden Held added 14. Colton Schweigert and Darrian Hood each accounted for 10 points and eight boards. Derek Thompson added seven rebounds.
Jacob Messmer and Cooper Hainy each scored 12 points for the Spartans. Messmer also claimed a game-high 12 rebounds for Wessington Springs.
JVC, which improves to 4-4 with the win, will play top-seeded Highmore-Harrold Tuesday night at Huron Arena, while Wessington Springs will move to the consolation round against Hitchcock-Tulare Tuesday afternoon, also at Huron Arena.

Wolsey-Wessington 76, Sunshine Bible Academy 41
The second-seeded Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds raced to a 43-20 halftime lead and coasted home with a 76-41 win over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders in the first round of the 281 Conference boys’ basketball tournament Saturday.
Brevan Hooks hit 21 points - all from behind the three-point line - to lead the Warbirds. Lynden Williams added 15 and seven rebounds and Jake Williams came off the bench to score 11 points. Hooks and Tristan Abbott each accounted for six rebounds for the Warbirds, who improve to 7-1.
SBA only had three players score in the game - two in double figures. Jade Burma had 18 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds for the double-double. Travis Hass had 17 points and eight boards for the Crusaders, who fall to 1-7 with the loss.
Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 51, Iroquois 24
The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks led all the way Saturday night, as they posted a 51-24 win over the Iroquois Chiefs in the final opening round game of the boys’ 281 Conference Tournament.
Noah Dickson scored 18 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Blackhawks, now 6-3. Tate Moody led SC-W with eight rebounds in the game.
Iroquois got six points from Keistan Dubro and seven rebounds from Addison Reed, as the Chiefs fall to 1-5 with the loss.
Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will face Wolsey-Wessington in the championship semifinals Tuesday night at Huron Arena, at approximately 8 p.m. Iroquois will slip into the consolation round, where they will tangle with Sunshine Bible Academy Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m.
