MILLER — David McDonald of Huron held off Brian Diede of Huron for the victory in the WISSOTA late model feature race on Saturday at Miller Central Speedway. The victory, which was McDonald’s eighth win at the track, capped two consecutive nights of racing at MCS.
McDonald overtook Curt Gelling of Aberdeen for the lead on the third lap, but had Gelling and Kent Arment nipping at his heels during the final laps. Gelling and Arment tangled on the final lap to slow the race and force a two-lap sprint to the finish.
On the ensuing restart, Blair Nothdurft’s car stalled coming to the green flag and would collect three other cars in the mishap. After re-racking the field for a second shot at the finish, Diede was able to get a run on the high side of the track coming out of turn four on the final lap to create the dramatic finish. McDonald would take the checkered flag less than a half a second ahead of Diede.
Josh Skorczewski was third, followed by Arment and Kelly Duffy of Winner.
Skorczewski was able to secure his second late model track championship in three years at the Miller track. Dustin Arthurs of St. Lawrence was second, followed by Gelling.
McDonald also topped the late model field on Friday, winning the feature race. Arment was second, followed by Diede, Chad Becker of Aberdeen and Gelling.
Cole Searing of Huron earned his first WISSOTA Midwest modified feature win on Saturday at Miller Central Speedway.
Searing passed Cory Berquist of Huron on the lap six and remained out front the rest of the main event. David Carson of Huron was second, followed by Lorin Johnson of Miller, Brad Kopecky of Miller and Dylan Zabel of Selby.
Johnson secured his 12th Midwest modified track title at his home track since 2007. Berquist was second in the season standings, followed by Jayme Peterson of Highmore.
Berquist led from start to finish to secure his third win in the Midwest modified feature on Friday. He held off Searing for the win. Carlson was third, followed by Johnson and Scott Hansen of Garden City.
Trevor Nelson of Warner recorded the sweep in the WISSOTA super stock division, by earning wins on both nights.
Saturday’s win was his fifth feature win at the speedway. Kelly Duffy of Winner got past Searing on a late restart to claim the second spot. Searing was third, followed by Kipp DeGroot of Platte and Jeremy North of Huron.
Searing captured his third straight super stock track title in Miller, while North and DeGroot were second and third, respectively.
Nelson led Searing across the finish line for the win on Friday. Duffy was third, followed by DeGroot and Caleb Yost of Miller.
Ferlin Sheridan of Aberdeen inked his first feature win in the pure stock feature race on Friday and added a second on Saturday.
Sheridan worked his way through the pack to take the lead on the eighth lap and secure the win on Friday. Jordan Rawstern of Blunt was second, followed by Mike Hammill of Miller, Destrie Morris of Miller and Curtis Johnson of Miller.
It didn’t take Sheridan nearly as long to reach the front of the field on Saturday, as he passed Hammill for the lead on the third lap and recorded the win. Hammill was second, followed by Johnson, Rawstern and Colton Fryer of Aberdeen.
Rawstern collected his second track title in the pure stock division in the past three years. Hammill was second, followed by Johnson.
Broc Stout of Winner and Zack Pollock of Miller were the feature winners in the WISSOTA street stock division on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Stout made his way past Pollock for the lead on the third lap en route to the victory on Friday. Despite blowing a radiator hose with two laps to go, Pollock held on for second, followed by Preston Blackwell of Miller, Chris Serr of Aberdeen and Michael Bogh of Huron.
Pollock held the lead from start to finish on Saturday to secure his third feature win. Serr was second, followed by Stout, Cole Phillips of Winner and Blackwell.
Stout, who has 23 career feature wins in Miller, won his second street stock track title in the past three years. Serr was second and Pollock was third.
After winning the WISSOTA modified feature race on Friday, Alex Guthmiller of Huron won his first track championship with a runner-up finish on Saturday.
Guthmiller pulled away for his seventh feature win on Friday, with Tyler McDonald of Huron taking second. Dale Ames of Huron was third, followed by Jordan Foster of Henry and Gelling.
McDonald held off Guthmiller for the win on Saturday. It was his 12th main event win. Nick Wranek of Tea was third, followed by Gelling and Ames.
