The annual Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was held Tuesday in Pierre, with around 90 trees decorated by volunteers on display. This year’s theme is “Hometown Christmas.” The largest tree is a Colorado Blue Spruce, decorated by the South Dakota Realtors Association. The tree, standing 25.5 feet tall, is in the rotunda and was donated by Andrew Forest and Ciara Rounds of Pierre. Special music was provided by James Valley Christian High School Choir and the Haakon County Crooners. The display is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Dec. 26. The trees were lit by Jax and Ava Kaiser of Aberdeen. Jax was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016 and recently started a new treatment that is working well. He is 9 years old.
