Trussbilt sets expansion ground breaking

HURON — Trussbilt, one of Huron’s largest employers and a manufacturing leader in the security and detention infrastructure industry, has set groundbreaking for its 101,000 square-foot expansion to the Huron facility.

Groundbreaking is tentatively set to take place on Aug. 13.

According to Mark Harvey, COO, “Trussbilt has never undergone an investment or expansion of this size or magnitude in the company’s 94-year history.”

“This expansion is essentially doubling our existing manufacturing space,” Harvey said. “Trussbilt has grown to be a global brand, and is one of only a handful of companies in the world that provide ASTM certified security/detention grade products to justice and correctional facilities, and we’re proud to be an industry leader located in South Dakota. Trussbilt is the only detention equipment manufacturer in North America to have achieved ISO 9001 Certification.”

Trussbilt was founded in 1926, as Gross Metal Products by Arthur Gross in St. Paul, Minnesota. Four years later, the company became Trussbilt Steel Doors, Inc. In December 1989, the company relocated to Huron, and by February 1, 1990, the first shipment of South Dakota-made products left the facility, providing a very proud milestone to the history of the company.

Since moving to Huron, Trussbilt has been fortunate to hire, train, and retain some of the best and most talented employees in the industry. From an original crew of 55 employees (eight of whom celebrated 30-year anniversaries with the company on Jan. 3), 39 of the 105 current employees have 15 years or more tenure with the company. At the core of Trussbilt’s assets is the loyalty and dedication of such employees that enables Trussbilt this prime opportunity to reinvest and expand.

Trussbilt’s certified detention equipment products are found in justice centers, courthouses, jails, prisons, and detention centers around the world.

Trussbilt proprietary Security walls (TrussWall®) and ceilings (TrussDek®) are key detention equipment components to prevent security breaches in the highest security level prisons in North America and internationally. Through Trussbilt’s innovative designs and engineering, their products have achieved testing credentials and engineering certifications unparalleled in the U.S. detentions industry and the world.
