Vikings collect first win of season

HURON — The James Valley Christian boys’ soccer team earned its first win of the season Saturday with a 7-3 victory against St. Thomas More.
Gavin Waldner had four goals for the Vikings, who are now 1-3.
Noah Fast had a pair of goals, while Isaac Korell had a goal.
Earning assists for JVC were Korell, Jackson Peck, Isaac Wipf, Eli Bishop and Waldner.
Jonah Niederbaumer earned the win in the net for the Vikings. He finished with 27 saves.
“Jonah Niederbaumer has been in the net for all four games and an improved defensive performance helped him get his first win as a varsity keeper,” JVC coach Jory Wipf said.
On Friday, Belle Fourche scored five answered goals to record an 8-4 win against the Vikings.
Belle Fourche finished with a 29-24 shots-on-goal advantage.
Waldner had all four goals for JVC, with Peck and Kheeghann Hood being credited with assists.
The Vikings are now off until they host Groton Area on Sept. 5.
