HURON – Tyler Volesky, a Huron Democrat, has announced his intention to seek a seat in the state Legislature from District 22.
He is running for the House in the 2018 election.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the people of District 22 in the state Legislature,” he said.
Volesky said he will run an energetic person-to-person race, with a goal of campaigning door to door throughout the district, which includes all of Beadle and Kingsbury counties.
A 2014 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University, Volesky, 26, was a three-year captain of the track team, earning all-conference honors as well as receiving the George McGovern Center for Public Service and Leadership Award.

He currently is a legal assistant and also does substitute teaching and coaches youth athletics in the Huron school system.
Volesky said he believes in making government work to serve people and solve problems faced by its citizens.
“I am particularly interested in promoting efforts to build a strong state economy that will help attract financial investments in our state and keep our young people here to raise families and strengthen our future,” he said.
Volesky said he will work to help build a state government that is responsive to the needs of citizens rather than the goals of special interests.
“I believe powerful special interests have controlled state government for far too long and the state Legislature needs to stand up against these elements,” he said.
Volesky said he will also be a strong proponent of adequate funding for K-12 education.
“There is nothing more important than a first-class education system for our young people,” he said.
He said he will listen to the concerns of the citizens and work with both political parties to help formulate solutions to meet the challenges of the future.
Volesky also said he will work to bring new and innovative ideas to state government.
“We live in a great state,” he said. “I want the opportunity to help provide the leadership that will continue to move our state forward in a positive direction.”
