PIPESTONE, Minn. — Voneta Mae Freese, 78, of Pipestone, Minn., passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Pipestone County Hospice.
Voneta Mae was born October 8, 1938, at Huron to Arthur and Rozella (Johnston) DeVries. She grew up and received her education in Huron receiving her BA Degree in elementary education at Huron University. She taught in the Huron School District for five years.
She was united in marriage to John Freese July 8, 1962. The couple moved to Pipestone, Minn. in 1966. She became a substitute teacher for three years and then opened a daycare in her home. She continued in this business for the next 27 years. In 1994, she was diagnosed as having dementia.
She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone, the teachers’ wives organization, her bridge club, a bowling league, and a 500 card group; and she enjoyed going dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Brett (Kelley) Freese of Sauk Centre, Minn., Mike Freese of Pipestone, Minn., and Ryan (Erica) Freese of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Dominic,
Aiden, and Brigit; sister, Mavis Grace of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard DeVries; sister-in-law, Marsha DeVries; and her brother-in-law, Ernan Grace.
