Walk-off single lifts Huron past Aberdeen

HURON — Using a walk-off single by Parker DeJean, the Huron Tigers escaped with a 6-5 victory in the eighth inning against the Aberdeen Smitty’s on Thursday at Klock Field.
After trailing by as many as four runs, Aberdeen rallied to force extra innings.
Huron was able to take the early advantage with a bases-loaded triple by Rick Strubel in the fifth inning. Strubel finished with two of the five hits in the game for the Tigers.
Bryce Steffen also had a double for Huron.

Steffen started on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Tigers. He allowed four runs on three hits, while striking out four. Chipper Shillingstad then pitched an inning and 2/3, allowing one run on four hits, with one strikeout.
DeJean came on to earn the win, pitching the final two innings. He held Aberdeen scoreless on two hits with four stikeouts.
Aberdeen recorded a 13-5 victory against Huron in the junior varsity game.
Daynon Huber led the Tigers with three hits, including a double, while Walker Schiltz had a pair of hits and Emerson DeVries had a two-run double. Teagan Pfitzer, DeVries and Schiltz shared the pitching duties for Huron. Pfitzer yielded four runs on seven hits with three strikes, while DeVries gave up seven runs – two earned – on four hits with a strikeout and Schiltz gave up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
The Tigers return to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader in Brookings.
