Wanda D. Jansen was born April 7, 1934, at home in Huron to Frank J. and Eva M. (Bootz) Jansen. She attended Huron Public Schools from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1953. She attended one year of business college learning life skills that enabled her to work in clerical and administrative roles throughout her career.
She married Ervin R. Beyer July 15, 1951. They lived in California for a short time while Ervin was in the Army. She married Marvin W. Moilan, Sr. June 20, 1956. They made their home in Huron where she worked in the Beadle County Courthouse in both the Treasurer’s Office and the Register of Deeds offices. She also worked at the Marvin Hughitt Hotel as a bookkeeper. Wanda then joined the South Dakota State Fair as the administrative assistant.
In 1983, following Marvin’s retirement, they moved to Hot Springs. During summer months, they traveled for Jack Hunter Sound providing sound for fairs and exhibitions for eight years prior to starting their lawn care and cleaning service. Wanda and Marvin moved back to Huron in September of 2010, and have resided in Huron since.
Wanda was active in many organizations in both Huron and Hot Springs. She was a lifelong Democrat serving in many capacities with the Beadle County and Fall River County Democrats. She received the George McGovern Grass Roots Award on June 16, 2007.
Wanda had a strong Christian faith, learning to love and trust God at an early age. She was baptized at 12 years old. She was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and St. John’s Lutheran Church while living in Hot Springs. Wanda’s favorite saying was “God’s in charge.” She loved to visit with everyone she met and would treat them like long-lost friends.
