KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nathan Wedel of Northwestern (Iowa) has been named the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Wedel was chosen for his performances from December 4 – 10 and was selected out of a pool of conference award winners.
Wedel, the son of Brad and Helene Wedel of Yale, and a graduate of James Valley Christian High School, was recognized for averaging 28.5 points, seven rebounds and three-and-a-half assists in a pair of Red Raider wins last week. Wedel notched a career-high 46 points in Northwestern’s 116-111 overtime win over Dordt on Dec. 6. The output is the second best single-game performance in Red Raider history. Northwestern also defeated Dakota State University on Dec. 9.
Northwestern is 11-2 and ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Division III coaches poll.
