RAPID CITY — Wolsey-Wessington used a score of 230.5 to claim the top spot in the small group cheer division during the Class A State Cheer and Dance Championships on Friday at Rapid City Stevens.
The Lady Warbirds finished ahead of Bon Homme and Belle Fourche, who were second and third, respectively, with scores of 195 in the 13-team division. Deubrook Area was fourth at 194.5, followed by Gregory at 183.5.
Sioux Valley, which won the large group cheer title with a score of 283, was the overall Class A cheer champion, while Wolsey-Wessington was second for the second straight year. Dell Rapids was third at 206, followed by Platte-Geddes/Andes Central/Dakota Christian at 197.5 and Winner at 195.5.
A total of 19 teams competed in the Class A cheer competition, with Redfield finishing 12th.
Clark/Willow Lake was sixth at 236.
The Cyclones were second in jazz with 240.5 points, while Dakota Valley claimed thetop spot with 334.
Dakota Valley also won the pom with 358, while Clark/Willow Lake was fifth at 231.5. Winner Area won both the kick and hip hop events.
