Woonsocket plans 2020 Water Festival

WOONSOCKET — The annual Water Festival this weekend in Woonsocket is named, “Freedom is Essential,” with half the events and double the fireworks!

Only activities that can apply social distancing will be held to ensure everyone has a safe Fourth of July celebration.

A 5K Run for Fun is planned at 7 p.m. Friday. Contact Rex Schlicht to pre-register for T-shirts at 354-0498. From 6 to 9 p.m. a Fishing Derby for Kids will be held at Lake Prior.

On Saturday, a “Freedom Parade” will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a bring your own picnic by the lake. Tenos Tacos will operate a food booth.

At 1:30 p.m., a bean bag tournament hosted by Legion Post 29 will begin. A fireworks display on the lake will begin at 10 p.m., sponsored by the Woonsocket Water Festival and detonated by Wide Awake Hose Co.

On July 5, a Spirit of Faith worship is planned from 9 to 10 a.m. around the island.
