Woonsocket superintendent receives award

PIERRE — The South Dakota School Superintendent Association (SDSSA) Executive Board is pleased to announce its 2022 Superintendent Awards.

Included in the recipients for this year’s award is Woonsocket School District Superintendent Dr. Rod Weber, who was presented the 2022 Community Leader of the Year Award.

Dr. Weber has served as a teacher, coach, principal, activity director, and superintendent for the community of Woonsocket since 1999.

He has been the superintendent, principal, special education director, and activity director since 2003. Dr. Weber not only invests in the public school system he is vested in the community’s very vitality.

From the coordination of the community’s 4th of July events to the construction of shared space, he is working to create a culture in the community that brings their graduates home. Community and school come together as partners through the leadership and heart of Dr. Weber.

Other award recipients are:
• Innovator of the Year Award - Dr. Jennifer Lowery, Tea Area School District.
• Rookie of the Year - Dr. Justin Zajic, Chamberlain Public School District.

• Distinguished Service Award - Don Kirkegaard.
• Superintendent of the Year - Dr. Steve Willard, Belle Fourche Public School District
