Woonsocket Water Festival planned Saturday through July 4

WOONSOCKET — Join the fun beginning next weekend for the annual Woonsocket Water Festival, “There’s No Place Like Home.”
A Follow the Yellow Brick Road 5K Run for Fun begins at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pre-register for t-shirts by contacting Rex Schlicht at 354-0498.
The Women’s and Men’s Alumni basketball game will be held at 2 p.m. in the Woonsocket Gymnasium. For more information contact Jalen Larson at 933-2099.
A street dance by Dustin Evans & The Good Times Band will begin at 9 p.m. The dance is sponsored by Skeeters and the fire department.
On Sunday, July 2, St. Wilfrid Church is hosting a pancake feed in the Community Center from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Children will want to take part in Dorothy’s Fishing Derby for Kids at Lake Prior. A Flying Monkey Bean Bag Tournament is planned at 1 p.m. south of the pool. It is sponsored by Legion Post 29.

From 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday will be the cook-off finals and feed. Contact Jeff Hotchkiss at 350-7276 for more information. A donation was made by the S.D. Pork Council.
The All School Alumni Banquet will be held Monday, July 3, in the Community Center, with the alumni social hour at 5 p.m. and the banquet at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, July 4, a parade begins at 11 a.m. The committee has chosen local World War II veterans for this year’s parade marshals. Veterans include Ken L. Anderson, Patrick Cahill, Robert Kappel, Lawrence (Larry) Miller, Martin Andersen Jr. and Gayland (Frenchie) Trudeau.
An FFA/Barbecue fundraiser will be held at noon in the school gymnasium.
A “Chair”-ity Auction will be held at the same time in the school commons.
Children will enjoy the Terrific Tornado Bouncy House, that will be set up by the pool from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. This is sponsored by Dakotaland.
At 1 p.m. there will be Toto’s Turtle Races, sno cones offered by the student council and national honor society, the Camp Critters Wagon Train and inflatables.
The Wicked Witches sand volleyball will begin at 2 p.m., and the No Cowards Allowed 3 on 3 Jamball Tourney begins at 4 p.m.
From 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, “Music by the Lake” will be provided by River of Life Band & Community Choir near the Depot Museum.
At 10 p.m. or after the sun goes down, there will be a fireworks display over Lake Prior. The fireworks display is sponsored by the Woonsocket Water Festival and will be detonated by Wide Awake Hose Co.
