Yankton dominates to emerge with ESD tennis title

HURON — The Yankton Bucks swept four singles titles, with Gage Becker taking the top spot at No. 1 singles with a 10-4 victory over Macon Larson of Mitchell to lead the pack. Zac Briggs at No. 3 singles, Harrison Krajewski at No. 4, and Keaton List at No. 5 each brought home titles for Yankton on the day.

Becker and Briggs also teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles title on the day.

Mitchell’s Tyler Loecker won the title at No. 2 singles and teammate Luke Jerke took home first place at No. 6 singles.

Huron’s Roger Puterbaugh finished sixth at No. 1 singles while Moo Gay finished sixth in No. 6 singles for the Tigers. Puterbaugh dropped his opening round match to eventual third-place winner Gabe Goetz of Aberdeen Central, then cam back to defeat Mark Mahowald of Watertown in the consolation semifinals, before falling 8-6 in the consolation finals to Cole Murray of Brandon Valley.

Moo Gay lost his opening round match against Zander Binde of Watertown, who would also wind up finishing third on the day, then came back to defeat Aberdeen Central’s Jack Riggs in the consolation round, before falling to Sam Woidyla, 8-4, in the consolation finals.

The remainder of the Tiger singles and doubles players lost matches in the opening round and consolation semifinals, ending their day.
