Yankton slips past Tigers

YANKTON – Huron boys soccer fell on the road to Yankton 3-2 Thursday night.

The teams were scoreless at half, and the Tigers struck first, as Ronaldo Pineda put in a goal in the 44th minute.

Yankton then scored three unanswered goals before Eduardo Trujillo scored again for the Tigers in the 70th minute.

Alex Bautista made 11 saves in goal in the loss.

Coach Leah Branaugh saw positives as the team heads to the postseason.

“It was great to see our seniors take charge,” Branaugh noted. “It wasn’t the way we wanted to end the regular season, but we know we need to put it behind us and get ready for the playoffs.”

The first round of playoffs kick off Tuesday.

Yankton defeated Huron 5-2 in the junior varsity game.

Lay Thaw and Biat Say had goals for the Tigers.

Nick Weir had two saves in goal.

The JV soccer team finishes the year with a record of 6-2-1.
