HURON — Eryn Schlotte, a 2017 Huron High School graduate and current member of the S.D. National Guard, visited American Legion Post 7 and gave a synopsis of her week last summer in Pierre at the Youth Trooper Academy.
The Youth Trooper Academy is a partnership between the S.D. Highway Patrol and the S.D. American Legion. The Youth Trooper Academy provides an intensive weeklong experience at the S.D. Law Enforcement Training Center in Pierre.
Veteran troopers provide mentorship and hands-on training in firearms safety, defensive driving, crash investigations, traffic stops, leadership, defensive tactics, and criminal law.
The 2018 Youth Trooper Academy will be conducted in Pierre on June 25-29.
