HURON — The Beadle County Democratic Forum will hold its postponed regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Ryan’s Hangar.

The guest speaker will be Jen Bragg, who has been the executive director of the United Way Heartland Region for five years. She is excited to work alongside the 23 United Way board members to help agencies in our community find the resources and funding they need to better serve their clients.

Bragg will give a presentation about the Region Backpack Program. Since its beginning in 2008, it has grown from serving 60 students in one building to helping more than 600 children.

These kids are enrolled in public and private schools in Huron, Iroquois, and Wolsey-Wessington. They range in age from preschool through high school.

Funded entirely by grants and donations and facilitated by the United Way Heartland Region, this program is a wonderful testament to the giving power of our community, and the desire of so many to make a better life for children in our region.

Everyone is invited to attend and learn more about the Region Backpack Program and how it impacts the lives of these children and their families.
