JVC teams capture 281 titles

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The James Valley Christian Vikings runners swept both team titles at Wednesday’s 281 Conference cross country meet, held at the Wessington Springs Golf Course.

The Vikings took first in the girls’ team standings, with Highmore-Harrold coming in second and Wessington Springs and Wolsey-Wessington finishing third and fourth.

Two Vikings runners paced the girls’ race, as Hadasah Olson broke the tape in 20:30.4 for the victory while teammate Daril Frandsen finished second with a 20:55.5 time.

Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold placed third at 21:10.5, Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington finished fourth at 21:33.9 and Andee Frandsen finished in 21:55 to claim fifth place.

The Vikings also ran away with the team title in the boys’ varsity race, while Highmore-Harrold finished second and Sunshine Bible Academy placed third.

A pair of freshman led the race, with James Valley’s Kaden Ober pulling out the victory in 17:46.6 while Brooks McPeak of Highmore-Harrold finished second at 18:00.6.

A tight group of runners placed third through sixth, with Sam Welsch of Wessington Springs leading the group in 19:23.9. Giddeon Waldner and Tayne Herrmann of JVC were next at 19:35.5 and 19:35.7, respectively. SBA’s Jimmy Burma came in just behind at 19:35.9.
