HURON — Jordan Wagner was crowned as the 2024 Miss State Fair, Jensine Matson earned the title of Miss Huron and Taya Ritterbush was named Miss State Fair Teen Saturday afternoon in competition during the S.D. State Fair.

Wagner was crowned by last year’s Miss State Fair Emily Deinken and, in addition to her crown and sash, won a $500 scholarship sponsored by the S.D. State Fair, a flower bouquet and $100 gift certificates from both Dakota Darling Boutique and Black Tie.

She presented a monologue for her talent, an excerpt of the famous Paul Harvey address made at the National FFA Convention, “God Made A Farmer.” She was also chosen to receive the Mary Ellen Vaillancourt Kindness Award. The $150 award and plaque are sponsored by the family of the late Mary Ellen Vaillancourt and was presented this year by Dr. Loren Vaillancourt Carver, Mary Ellen’s daughter and the 2010 Miss South Dakota.

Matson presented “A Story of Growth,” in line with her social impact statement of Childhood Trauma Awareness.” Matson was crowned by the 2023 Miss Huron, Julia Stanek, and will receive a $300 scholarship sponsored by MSF, as well as the floral bouquet and gift certificates.

She was chosen by her fellow delegates to receive the $50 Karen Kogel Memorial Miss Congeniality Award.

A new award, the Ray Peterson Memorial Award, presented to the delegate with the top talent score was presented to Adrian Gruis, who sang “Rolling in the Deep.”

Molly Crawford was first-runner up to the two Miss title holders. She receives a $100 scholarship and a floral bouquet.

Ritterbush won the crown, sash and $150 scholarship, the floral bouquet and certificates. She was named the Teen Miss Congeniality $50 Award winner. She was crowned by the 2023 Miss State Fair Teen title holder Modesty Heath. Riley Schwinler, the 2023 Miss Huron Teen, Miss South Dakota Joelle Simpson and Miss South Dakota Teen Briley Steffensen joined Deinken, Stanek and Heath in presenting their talents and acting as emcees.

Wagner, Matson and Ritterbush will now compete for the Miss South Dakota and Miss South Dakota Teen titles next June in Brookings. It will be a return trip for both Matson and Ritterbush, who were both delegates at this year’s event.
