'Raise the Shed' matching grant from Huron Community Foundation will raise $100 K

Posted

HURON — The S.D. State Fair Foundation is excited to share an opportunity that promises to transform not just the landscape of the South Dakota State Fairgrounds but also the community.

They extend an invitation to be a part of something truly remarkable — the “Raise The SHED” project.

The community has played an integral role in this journey. Past contributions to projects like the Nordby Exhibit Hall and the DEX: Dakota Events CompleX have made a tangible difference.

Now, they invite you to continue this legacy of impact by partnering with them for the “Raise The SHED” capital campaign and the recent matching grant challenge made possible through the Huron Community Foundation.

This matching opportunity will amplify the impact of the contributions. Every dollar donated to the project will be matched up to $50,000, making for a $100,000 contribution to the campaign.

Currently, their fundraising efforts have seen remarkable progress, with approximately $1.8 million raised. However, they aim to raise an additional $1 million to fully realize the potential of this project.

The recent passing of House Bill 1065 by the South Dakota Legislature marks a significant milestone in our journey. This bill, granting the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources the authority to proceed with the design and construction of The SHED, signals a new era of sustained growth and progress for our beloved fairgrounds.

Here’s why this project is so vital:
• State Support: House Bill 1065 allocated $4 million in state general funds toward the project, emphasizing the state’s commitment to its success.
• Community Involvement: The bill also authorizes spending up to $4 million in other funds, sourced from fundraising efforts like this. This highlights the importance of community involvement and support in making The SHED a reality.

• Urgency of Action: By declaring the project as an emergency, construction can commence promptly. This underscores the urgency of this collective action in securing the necessary funds.

The SHED is not just another building; it’s a beacon of opportunity and progress.

Spanning 40,000 square feet, it will feature a 1,320 square foot education center, a 792 square foot mezzanine, and accommodations for 1,000 head of sheep. Additionally, it will include amenities such as a 30-bay wash rack, a 2,300 square foot show ring, and restrooms. This multipurpose space will serve as a hub for various events and activities, including open class sheep and youth shows, crucial for nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Your support, in any capacity, will make a meaningful difference in this journey toward building The SHED. All donations are tax-deductible and must be paid in full by June 30, 2025.
