ABERDEEN — A windy day on the Lee Park Golf Course made the annual running of the Sahli/Salmi Cross County Invitational a struggle Thursday afternoon

“No personal records today with the windy conditions,” said cross county coach Angie Thomas, “but we did have a medal winner in each class today.”

The boys’ team race was easily claimed by the host Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles with 22 points, with Pierre finishing second with 43 points, while Huron was third with 77 counters.

Pierre’s Caleb Morris won the boys’ race in a time of 16:35.2, a half-second ahead of Carson Urlacher of Aberdeen Central.

TJ Lien was the first Tiger across the line, as he finished in ninth place.

Teagan Lien was 19th, Angelo Medina was 26th and James Weir finished 27th for Huron.

Pierre reversed the finish in the girls’ varsity action, scoring 19 points to 40 for Aberdeen.

Emery Larson of Pierre easily broke the tape in the race, in a time of 18:58.68, two full minutes ahead of Central’s Juna Ramer.

Lily Swanson was 15th to lead the Tiger contingent in the race. Nora Pester finished 18th and Josie Vlieger was 20th for Huron, which failed to field a full team.

Aberdeen Central scored team wins in both the boys’ and girls’ JV races.

Huron’s boys finished fifth in the team standings, led by Max Radke’s 13th place finish.

Sebastian Olivo was 24th and Henry Kruse was 27th.

Huron’s girls, which didn’t have a team in the race, was led by Reva McGaugh’s third-place finish.

Middle School results found Pierre winning both the girls’ and boys’ team races.

Huron had an eighth-place finish from Harper Spilde in the girls’ race and Natalee McGaugh finished 19th.

The Tigers finished fifth in the boys’ middle school race. Corbin Fuchs finished 11th to lead Huron and Sawyer Storm finished 17th.

Tiger cross country runners are off now until Sept. 21, when Huron hosts the Clyde Cotton Invitational, at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
