HURON — Senior Hamtyn Heinz of Huron was named to the Class AA all-state second team, which was announced today by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Heinz, a 5-8 guard, led the Tigers with an average of 15.9 points per game this season. She also grabbed 4.5 rebounds and had 2.1 assists per game.
“Hamtyn was a tremendous leader for our team this year. She knew she had to be the best player for us every night and she knew that she was going to see the best defenders and she showed up willing to take that challenge,” Huron coach Kody Kopfmann said. “Her work ethic to make herself as good as possible is second to none, not just in basketball but in everything that she does.”
Heinz reached the 1,000-point milestone for the Tigers during a game against Sturgis this season. She finished her high school career with 1,091 points.
As far as her future is concerned, Heinz has had contact with a number of schools to play at the collegiate level. However, she has yet to make a decision as to where that will be.
Senior Mahli Abdouch, who helped O’Gorman to a undefeated season and a Class AA state championship, was selected as the Class AA Player of the Year.
She was joined on the first team by senior Sawyer Stoebner of Mitchell; sophomore Alyvia Padgett of Brandon Valley; junior Taaliyah Porter of Rapid City Stevens; freshman Brinley Altenburg of Sioux Falls Jefferson; and junior Grace Peterson of Sioux Falls Washington.
Joining Heinz on the second team were senior Jaidyn Dunn of Sioux Falls Jefferson; senior Reese Terwilliger of Pierre; junior Lennix Dupris of Pierre; senior Abby Flanagan of Harrisburg; and sophomore Taryn Hermansen of Aberdeen Central.
Honorable mention went to senior Lucy Moore of O’Gorman; senior Lolo Carlow of Rapid City Central; junior Jozie Dana of Spearfish; senior Claire Tereshinski of Yankton; freshman Leah Landry of Rapid City Central; and sophomore Addie Siemsen of Mitchell.
