Heartland area wrestlers participate in state youth wrestling tournament

RAPID CITY – The Huron youth wrestling club sent 25 wrestlers to Rapid City to this past weekend’s South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association State AAU Championships held at the Monument. Sixteen came away with a placing finish.
While Huron did not have a title winner, three wrestlers finished second in their weight class. Georgia Wachter placed second in the girls’ Midget 70-pound class, December Chase finished second in girls Novice 160, and Uriah Cardona took the second spot in the boys’ Novice 138-pound class.
Kennisyn Armstrong (girls Midget 60), Lucas Chaparro (boys Cadet 16U 165), and Kayeleigh Bowden (girls high school 145) each finished third for Huron while Dane Welch (boys Bantam 70), Kasen Armstrong (schoolboy 100), and Aiden Airheart (boys Cadet 16U 150) each finished fourth.
Noah Hofer won fifth place in the Schoolboy 85-pound weight class. Nylah Perez (girls Bantam 50) and Teagan Lien (boys Cadet 16U 144) took home sixth-place finishes.
Evangeline Wachter wrestled to a seventh-place finish in the girls’ Bantam 57-pound weight class. Margo Wachter (girls Tots 43), Emrick DeDeyne (Schoolboy 80), and Tyler Cronin (boys Junior 165) each finished eighth in the tournament in their respective weight class.
Other local wrestlers also had notable success on the weekend. Eleven Heartland wrestlers won titles over the weekend’s action.
