The Beadle County Democratic Forum is excited to host two candidates running for city commissioner. The Forum will be held on Monday, April 27, in Ryan’s Hanger at the Crossroads.
Drew Weinreis will kick off the evening at 6 p.m., with Josh Carr following at 7 p.m.
Weinreis is the Senior Vice President of Member Services at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, where he has proudly served its members for 14 years. A lifelong resident of Huron, Drew is deeply committed to strengthening the community he calls home. He is actively involved in several local organizations, including serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Center for Independence, an Ambassador with the Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau, a member of the Community Improvement Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Huron Community Campus. Weinreis also served the community as a Huron City Commissioner from 2021 to 2025, bringing a steady, service-oriented approach to local leadership.
Weinreis said, “I am running for City Commissioner to serve the Huron community with a strong focus on responsible leadership, collaboration, and long-term growth. As a lifelong resident and someone who has spent years working closely with local organizations, I understand both the opportunities and challenges our city faces.
“My experience as a City Commissioner from 2021 to 2025, combined with my professional background in member services and community involvement, has reinforced my commitment to making thoughtful decisions that support economic development, quality of life, and a strong future for Huron. I am passionate about giving back to the city that has given so much to me and ensuring Huron remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Carr is a long-time community leader and resident. He has spent nearly 17 years living and serving in Huron, with a deep involvement in local organizations and community initiatives. He is a former chiropractic physician for 15+ years, and is now a financial advisor. His leadership roles include President of the Huron Sertoma Club, 14 years on the S.D. Chiropractic Association board, and current Vice Chair of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau.
Carr is committed to supporting Huron’s growth and character. He believes in investing in the community while honoring what makes Huron unique—its history, diversity, strong schools, and revitalized downtown.
Carr said, “I will expound on these and answer any questions that may arise.”
The public is encouraged to attend and listen to our candidates.
